We have a commercial client requesting a residential look to their existing 9 year old loveseat and sofa. They wanted softer lines and fabric.
In commercial design there are many codes that have to be followed: Interior finishes, materials and furniture have to meet or exceed local, state and national fire codes. Furniture and fabrics need to be stain resistant and offer high abrasion qualities. You should not specify a residential piece of furniture for a commercial space.
What to do…
The above photo is the existing loveseat before it was recovered. This is a great commercial piece with subdued, tailored lines with tapered wood feet. It’s well constructed since it’s in perfect condition after 9 years.
We proposed adding new foam for bulk, tufting at the back and beef up the arms. We also added a simple skirt. Proposed a commercial grade fabric with stain repellent finish, 100,000 double rubs abrasion resistance with a very soft residential look.
Here is the existing loveseat during the re-upholstery process.
Above is the finished loveseat. Amazing how much this commercial loveseat now looks softer and more residential.
The above photo is the existing sofa before it was recovered. This sofa is very high quality with a sturdy frame, curved lines with tapered wood feet. It the same excellent condition as the above loveseat.
Here is that same sofa during the re-upholstery process.
Ta-da! the finished sofa – Wow! I hope you enjoyed these transformations as much as the client has.
